Dylan Barbeler ready to splash Queensland colours

DYLAN Barbeler has swum himself into the Queensland team to contest the National Swimming Championships later this year.

The 10-year-old Cannonvale State School student produced a personal best (PB) at state titles, blitzing his favoured 50m breaststroke in a time of 43.32 seconds.

The whirlwind time saw Dylan finish third overall, booking his place in the Queensland team to take on the rest of Australia.

Dylan's representative honour is Cannonvale State School's first in nine years, when Sam Foster represented Queensland in rugby league and touch football.

The accolades didn't stop there for Dylan, breaking a 15-year-old school record at last term's swimming carnival.

The 10-year boys 50m breaststroke record was previously held by Able Morris with a time of 48.82 seconds in 1999.

Dylan went one better, writing his own name into history with a time of 47.93.

Dylan said he was excited to attend the national championships in Melbourne.

"It will be my first time but hopefully I will go good," he said.

"The main thing will be just having fun."

Cannonvale State School physical education (PE) teacher Peter Smith said the entire campus was proud of Dylan.

"It's a massive achievement in any sport," he said.

"We're very proud. Dylan has been training very hard and we wish him all the best at nationals."
