SUNCENTRAL Maroochydore has signaled the start of construction on the new CBD site, inviting tenders for bulk earthworks for the first stage of the development to start early in the New Year.

The works, to begin in February, will prepare part of the former golf course for construction of civil works, including roads, landscaping and public areas.

SunCentral Maroochydore CEO John Knaggs said these initial works were estimated to create more than 50 jobs, with flow-on opportunities for local suppliers, contractors and consultants.

"The construction phase of the project is expected to create about 14,000 jobs over the life of the project," Mr Knaggs said.

"This bulk earthworks contract marks the beginning of the construction phase."

Mr Knaggs said construction of civil works for the first stage of the new CBD was scheduled to commence when bulk earthworks were completed.

He said project updates would be available on the SunCentral Maroochydore website and residents and businesses were welcome to contact the company if they wanted more information about the activities on site.

"Council acquired by resumption this 53ha parcel of land in the heart of Maroochydore and established SunCentral to oversee delivery of a vibrant, central city destination for future generations to enjoy," Mr Knaggs said.

"This is a project owned by the community, for the community, and it includes fantastic new facilities, with 40% of the site allocated for public parks and waterways.

"It is very early days but it's certainly exciting and rewarding to be involved, knowing what it will mean for our region for many years to come."

The new CBD will feature:

Significant public parkland and waterways

Prime commercial office space

Dining and entertainment precincts

CBD style retail space

Inner city living

A premium hotel

An entertainment, convention and exhibition centre

New community facilities
