Efforts officially recognised at PSHS
THE Proserpine State High School 2016 Awards Night reflected an excellent year.
The awards night recognised many individual Year 12 students winning multiple subject awards.
Matthew Drennan won the Mathematics B and C Award, Eric Camm won Geography and Mathematics A and Liam Mason received an English and Film, Television and New Media awards.
Dux Logan Donadelli achieved the English, Legal Studies, Drama and Economics awards and co-dux student Lloyd Clode-Roberts took out Chemistry, Physical Education and Physics.
Students who obtained awards in the cultural category include Kenzii Docherty, Sean O'Neil, Student of the Year Jessica Muller, co-dux Logan Donadelli and Connor Hawkins.
Leadership Acknowledgement was awarded to Jonathan Naranjo, Darcy Larkin, Brendan Hoffman, Logan Donadelli and Natalie Cowan.
PSHS principal Don McDermid said the school always found ways to encourage academic achievement.
"We are building a culture of excellence in our school and to build that we have tiers of recognition,” he said.
This culture caught the attention of Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk at the Whitsunday community cabinet, noting the school's QCS success rate of 99%.
Mr McDermid said many deserving students missed out on recognition at the Awards Night.
"For every student that stands up to receive an award, there are countless others behind them also achieving at very high standards,” he said.
Year 12 student Gaelyn Casali was singled out for winning a 12 month exchange program to study in Sweden, due to an essay on International Affairs.
Others include Taylor Trewartha, receiving a Gold Medal in Young Australian Art Awards, Bree Jolley who will attend National Youth Science Forum in Canberra in January and Emma Dinnie for completing a CQU nursing subject with Distinction.
