SWIMMING: It was a weekend of learning for the Cannonvale Cannons, who hosted Australian age group swim coach Dean Boxall.
Boxall is the swim coach for one of the top clubs in Australia, St Peter's Western in Brisbane, where he coaches with Michael Bohl - whose swimmer, Mitch Larkin, recently broke the 200m breaststroke world record.
As part of the Get Going Clubs grant, the Cannons were fortunate to lure Boxall from his busy schedule for a clinic at the Cannonvale pool at the weekend.
Boxall ran a two-hour presentation for parents on Friday night, defining what it takes to be an elite athlete.
On Saturday he facilitated a number of coaching clinics for the different squad levels, much to the delight of the local swimmers, who enjoyed Boxall's charisma.
Cannonvale Cannons' coach Mark Erickson said Boxall's visit was timely leading into this month's State Championships.
Erickson also noted Boxall's energy and enthusiasm for the sport, praising his ability to engage with participants.
In other news, 45 Cannons are preparing for this week's NQ level-one meet at the Cannonvale Pool.
Three swimmers are also fine-tuning their skills ahead of the State Long Course titles later in the month.
