RENEGADE Independent candidate for the state seat of Gympie, Scott Elms, says he has heard nothing about police investigations into blackmail claims against him.

Yesterday, the Courier Mail reported that police were investigating a complaint alleging that Member of Gympie David Gibson was blackmailed by a constituent who learnt of his past theft charges.

The Courier Mail reported that police had confirmed they were investigating "possible criminal offences committed by a person involving Mr Gibson".

Yesterday Mr Elms wasn't concerned about any investigation into claims of blackmail saying it was all just "a smokescreen".

"Police still haven't confirmed to me that they are investigating me," Mr Elms said. "They haven't even responded to me about my complaint about Mr Gibson I sent to the Police Commissioner's office.

"I wrote to them on April 28 and got no response and I wrote to them yesterday (Monday), no response."

Mr Elms also made a complaint about Mr Gibson to the Crime and Misconduct Commission.

Mr Elms alleged Mr Gibson influenced the outcome of a development application and made his support for it conditional on Mr Elms publicly demonstrating his support for him as an MP.

On Monday the CMC wrote to Mr Elms saying there was "no proper basis to suspect the commission of a criminal offence such as to reasonably raise a suspicion of official misconduct".

The CMC is taking no further action against Mr Gibson.
