Young achiever award

WHITSUNDAY environmentalist Libby Edge was recognised for her hard work on the creation of Eco Barge Service when she won the Young Achiever's award.

The Whitsundays relies heavily on its unique marine life and pristine tropical island beaches to attract tourists to the region.

Eco Barge Services is an environmental clean-up operation which helps preserve the region's tourist appeal by keeping Whitsunday seas clear of the marine debris that threatens its delicate ecology.

Ms Edge said she was very surprised when she collected the award and said she had no idea she was in with a chance of winning.

“It is really lovely to have the support from the tourism industry,” she said.

“I'm just so chuffed.

“It really puts eco barge out there.”

Ms Edge said despite her winning the award as an individual, she hoped her sponsors, family and community members were also recognised.

“It is an individual award but there are so many people behind me,” she said.
