Equestrian group riders claim showjumping ribbons

EQUESTRIAN: Whitsunday Equestrian Group members travelled north on the weekend to compete at the North Queensland Equestrian Group Show Jumping Championships.

Riders from as far north as Cairns and as far south as Rockhampton participated in the two-day competition at the Ayr Showgrounds.

President Tracey Davies said this annual event attracted the most talented showjumping riders in North Queensland and they were proud WEG members produced some great results.

The feature 6 Bar Event on Saturday night was a highlight for the weekend, with several competitors taking up the challenge.

Davies said the 6 Bar was six consecutive jumps, with the first jump lower than the next, increasing in height with each jump. The event has five rounds, with the height increased each round. There are only a couple of strides between each jump, with the maximum height of the final jump being about 1.4 metres.

WEG members Tori Mansfield placed 3rd and Samantha Gilchrist placed 4th.

Other local riders results:

Charlie Lee riding Bella - 1st AM7 60cm, 1st AM3 60cm, 3rd Grand Prix 60cm; Abigail Lee riding The Butler - 1st AM3 80cm, 6th AM5 100cm; Georgina Lee riding Harry - 4th Grand Prix 100cm; Kendell Davies riding Chino - 2nd Grand Prix 80cm; Tori Mansfield riding Limited Edition - 5th Grand Prix 60cm; Tori Mansfield riding Lochie - 1st AM7 110cm, 1st Accumulator 110cm.

Whitsunday Equestrian Group's next big event is the Rocktober Teams Challenge, with teams competing in dressage and showjumping disciplines. For more information call Tracey on 0408 199 449.
