Eva puts exams aside to win Bowen regatta
FOR Eva Lorenz, taking part in the weekend's Bowen Regatta was a refreshing break from preparation for final exams.
Eva, a veterinary science student at Townsville's James Cook University, is well known in off the beach sailing circles, having competed successfully in numerous State and Australian championships in the Optimist and 420 dinghy classes.
Last weekend Eva borrowed a Laser dinghy and proved her versatility by winning the Laser division at the popular off-beach regatta.
She was accompanied by other regulars on the local off-beach sailing scene including Sean O'Regan, who was determined to compete despite being unwell, and showed his expertise by rounding the first mark of the course in first place.
The Whitsunday Sailing Club's off-beach rear commodore Luke Mairs also sailed in the regatta, featuring Optimists, Lasers, Arrow catamarans and 505s, whose skippers came from all over North Queensland to compete.
