EVERY GAME: Stats and need-to-knows ahead of MRFZ finals

A SEASON'S worth of blood, sweat and tears will soon come to a head.

The grand finals of the 2020 Mackay Regional Football Zone season are upon us.

The action begins on Friday night, with three games under lights at Mackay Football Park, continuing on Saturday with the remaining eight deciders.

Ahead of the blockbuster two days of football, the Daily Mercury has gone over all the stats from the season gone to provide an added layer of insight.

 

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30 -

Men's Division 2
Mackay Football Park Field 4 (6pm)

City Brothers (1) v Lions (2)

Need to know: City Brothers claimed the premiership on 36 points, two points clear of Lions in second. Lions scored the most goals (62) of any side in Division 2, while City Brothers conceded the least number of goals (13). When these two teams last met, on October 16, City Brothers prevailed 3-2.

Season H2H (2-2): City Brothers 4 d Lions 0 (July 24);Lions 2 d City Brothers 1 (August 28); Lions 4 d City Brothers 1 (September 25); City Brothers 3 d Lions 2 (October 16).

 

Premier Women

Mackay Football Park Field 3 (7pm)

Lions (1) v Magpies (4)

Need to know: Lions finished the season undefeated with a 15-0-0 record, 27 points ahead of second-placed City Brothers. Magpies meanwhile finished the regular season in fourth place on 10 points, however shocked the established order to make it to grand final day. Lions top all the major statistical categories including most goals for (55) and least against (4). When these two teams last met, on October 2, Lions prevailed 4-1.

Fun fact: Magpies Premier Women is the only team contesting a grand final to have finished outside of the top two at the end of the regular season.

Men's Division 1

Mackay Football Park Field 4 (8pm)

Dolphins (1) v Lions (2)

Need to know: Dolphins claimed the premiership on 33 points, five points clear of Lions in second. Dolphins comfortably scored the most goals (69) of any side in Division 1 and shipped the third-least amount of goals (22). Lions' +28 goal difference is the second best in the competition, behind Dolphins (+47). When these two teams last met, on October 16, Dolphins prevailed 2-1.

Under-12 Premier

Lions Green (1) v Magpies White (2)

Need to know: Lions Green claimed the premiership on 35 points, just one point clear of Magpies White in second. Magpies White scored the most goals (69) of any team in U12 Premier, while Lions Green conceded the least number of goals (16). When these two teams last met, on October 17, Lions Green prevailed 3-0.

Sarina Red finished the season with 66 goals scored, good for third-best in the competition. Proserpine Taipans conceded the second-fewest number of goals (25) and boast the third-best goal difference (+36). When these two teams last met, on October 17, Proserpine Taipans prevailed 2-1.

Need to know: Rangers went undefeated, going 12-0-0, to claim the minor premiership on 36 points, 10 points clear of Wanderers Red in second. Rangers comfortably scored the most goals (88) in the competition while also conceding the fewest number of goals (7) of any side. Wanderers Red finished second in both categories, with 58 and 14 respectively. When these two teams last met, on October 24, Rangers prevailed 4-1.

Need to know: Lions went undefeated during the regular season, going 10-2-0, to claim the premiership on 32 points, one point clear of Crusaders in second. Crusaders scored the most goals (63) of any team in the competition, while Lions conceded the fewest number of goals (11) of any side. Crusaders finished the regular season with the best goal difference (+49), with Lions the next-best team on +44. When these two teams last met, on October 22, Crusaders prevailed 1-0.

Under 13/14 Division 1

Mackay Football Park Field 3 (1pm)

Whitsunday United (2) v Dolphins Blue (1)

Need to know: Dolphins Blue dropped just one game all season to claim the premiership on 29 points, one point clear of Whitsunday United in second. Whitsunday United's 59 goals on the season was the best of any team in Division 1, while Dolphins Blue conceded the fewest number of goals (13). Whitsunday United's +42 goal difference was comfortably the best in the competition. When these two teams last met, on October 17, Whitsunday United prevailed 2-1.

Whitsunday United (1) v Rangers (2)

Need to know: Whitsunday United claimed the premiership on 35 points, four points clear of Rangers in second. Incredibly, Whitsunday United and Rangers tied for the most goals scored (84) and second-most goals conceded (26) to also finish equal on goal difference with +58. When these two teams last met, on October 17, Whitsunday United prevailed 7-5. Games between these two teams are traditionally high scoring affairs, with an average of seven goals scored.

Need to know: Magpies and City Brothers finished equal top of the Premier Reserve table on 34 points, however Magpies claimed the premiership courtesy of a superior goal difference (+60 to City Brothers' +23). Magpies comfortably scored the most goals (85) of any team in the Reserves. City Brothers conceded the second-fewest number of goals (24) in the competition. When these two teams last met, on October 17, Magpies prevailed 2-1.

Season H2H (City Brothers 2-1-0): City Brothers 7 d Magpies 4 (August 8); Magpies 4 drew City Brothers 4 (September 26); City Brothers 2 d Magpies 1 (October 17)

 

Premier Men

Mackay Football Park Field 2 (7pm)

Crusaders (1) v Magpies (2)

Need to know: Crusaders dropped just one game en route to claiming the premiership on 29 points, six points clear of Magpies in second. Crusaders scored the most goals (63) and conceded the fewest number of goals (17) in the Premier League. Magpies finished second in both categories, with 50 goals and 19 goals respectively. When these two teams last met, on October 17, Crusaders prevailed 4-1.
