Expansion building a bright future
ST CATHERINE'S Catholic College in Proserpine is in the process of expanding as the high school campus continues on-going construction.
The senior campus on Renwick Road opened in January 2012 and now offers education from Year 5 to 9.
Each stage has been designed by consultants Tony Madden Architects, with the construction of Stage 3 now underway in preparation for the introduction of Years 10, 11 and 12.
By 2017, the master plan of a full prep to Year 12 college, with a dedicated early learning precinct, middle schooling and senior years, will be complete. Principal of the primary campus Sharyn Bell said it was a very exciting time for St Catherine's Catholic College to see the long held plans of the local community continue to develop after years of support and planning.
"I look forward to the Whitsundays community continuing to support St Catherine's and allowing their children to experience the Catholic school difference right through to Year 12."
The Sisters of Mercy established St Catherine's in 1925 and their spirituality continues to be a guiding strength and spirit for the current school community.
The Ignatian spirituality has been chosen for the senior campus, preaching on tradition which inspires students to strive for excellence in order to 'be the best for the world' rather than be the 'best in the world'.
Secondary principal David Burke said the school's emphasis on quality learning and teaching, the community spirit, extracurricular opportunities and support for children to reach their potential are the hallmarks of St Catherine's.
"St Catherine's is an innovative school including the latest in technological learning and resources. It is these values and the quality of education that have made Catholic schools a much sort after educational choice by Australian families for generations," he said.
