POLICE are investigating a possible arson case which caused extensive damage to a 46ft boat in Edge's boat yard at Jubilee Pocket on Friday.

It is believed the incident occurred at about 5.30pm when people noticed a fire, followed by an explosion from under the deck of the boat.

Whitsunday police Senior Sergeant Steve O'Connell said the boat had been badly damaged and was examined by forensic, scientific and gas examiners on the weekend.

He said investigations were continuing.

Snr. Sgt O'Connell said if anyone had any information they should contact Crimestoppers on 1300 333 000 or the Whitsunday police station.
