Extra funding for tourism

WHITSUNDAY Regional Council has expanded its commitment to tourism in its budget.

Tourism Whitsundays will receive $250,000

in funding for destination marketing, and Tourism Bowen will get $60,000.

The Council has also committed a further $100,000 for TW, to be matched dollar-for-dollar with industry funding.

Mayor Mike Brunker said the tourism industry had struggled over the past two years, facing cyclones and flooding as well as the global financial crisis.

“Tourism is one of the key economic drivers of this region,” he said.
