False alarm at shopping centre

PATRONS were forced to abandon their shopping and make for evacuation points at the Whitsunday Shopping Centre early this afternoon.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson said they had received the call "just after 12" with one fire truck attending the scene.

The spokesperson said there was no fire or smoke, but QFES attend all alarms to ensure the safety of the community.

"It was just a false alarm," they said.

The complex has since reopened to shoppers.
