Family fun brightens mood after final loss
THEY might not have gotten up in Saturday night's Grand Final, but that didn't stop the Whitsunday Brahmans celebrating what can only be described as a successful season.
Many a fan made the trip down to Mackay to see our home side do battle with the Magpies, backing up on Sunday for the Brahmans Family Fun Day.
True to their word, despite going down, the Brahmans were there to give back to the fans who have supported them so whole-heartedly.
Event organiser and club stalwart Paul Maxwell said their support was second to none in the Mackay league.
"They're loyal and passionate,” he said.
"We're lucky. It would have been nice if the result went the other way, but it didn't so we just made the most of it.”
Mr Maxwell said the day had plenty of families turn out for the fun.
"It's good that we know that people are still behind us,” he said.
"I think they know the players tried their hardest but it didn't go their way.
"Hopefully we're a little bit better for it next year.”
A-grade coach James Webb said he was glad to see the supporters turn out on Sunday.
"It was good to see them all show up even though we couldn't get the job done for them,” he said.
"They're all loyal supporters and it was good to see them down there.”
With a jumping castle for the children, live music from the back of a truck trailer and a few celebratory beers for the boys, it was a great way to wrap up the 2016 season.
Mr Maxwell said it was also a chance for some fun after a disappointing loss.
"There were parents and wives and girlfriends,” he said. "There were heaps of little kids.
"It was a bit of a disappointing result obviously, but we might reflect back in a couple of weeks and see it differently.”
With the Family Fun Day wrapped up and Mad Monday celebrations come to an end, the Brahmans now look to 2017 to return to the top.
