Family Fun Day draws big crowds

FAMILIES from all across the Whitsundays had great fun today, turning out for the Whitsunday Shopping Centre Family Fun Day.

With face painting, a petting zoo and even a jumping castle, the kids couldn't have been more spoilt for choice.

Whitsunday mayor Andrew Willcox cut the Family Fun Day cake, welcoming residents to the centre.

Mr Willcox praised the efforts of the centre, also acknowledging the long road ahead.

"We all know the devastating affect that the recent fire has on the business owners, their employees and the local community," he said.

"The full impact of the fire will be felt for a long time.

"Not surprisingly, our community has pulled together and with the help of emergency services, security personnel, retailers and the local community, the recovery process has already commenced.

"Whitsunday Shopping Centre manager Theresa Manning and the team here at Whitsunday Shopping Centre have done an absolutely brilliant job of pulling the centre back together and starting the rebuild process."

Today's fun day follows last night's Mother's Day Twilight Markets, acting as a thank you from the centre to the local community for all their support.
