Family relieved as murderer's appeal dismissed
IT HAS been a three-year struggle for the Matthews family, but on Friday they were able to shut the door on their darkest day.
The family of Brandon Matthews, who was murdered in a street fight in Ipswich in 2012, say the news that an appeal by the convicted killer had been quashed was a relief.
The Queensland Court of Appeal dismissed Zachary Michael Moloney's claims his murder conviction was unreasonable.
Moloney, 24, was found guilty in 2013 of murdering Mr Matthews during a North Ipswich street fight over a $50 loan.
Brandon's mother Paula hopes her son will now be left to rest in peace.
"Hopefully he won't ever get parole," she said. "I was told it (the appeal) could possibly be a year.
"It would have only added to our loss and grief.
"I am relieved that it only took a week for judges to dismiss the reasons for the appeal."
