Fatal crash driver back in court on drug charge

A FATAL crash driver is set to be dealt with for breaching his suspended sentence after facing court on a drug offence.

Jameson Mark Routledge, 20, was sentenced in Maroochydore District Court in June last year to two-and-a-half years in jail for driving a car which crashed on December 11, 2014, killing 17-year-old passenger Hope Dell.

The sentence was immediately suspended, meaning Routledge was not ordered to serve any time.

He fronted Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday on a drug possession charge stemming from an incident at The Wharf Tavern in Mooloolaba about 12.40am on December 23 last year.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Leonie Scott said a security guard had seized three capsules from a man inside the tavern.

When police arrived, Routledge was nominated as that man.

Sgt Scott said Routledge made full admissions, saying he had bought the capsules from an unknown person inside the club for $20.

Duty solicitor Michael Robinson asked that Routledge be given a fine and that he be allowed bail for breaching his suspended sentence.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist allowed bail and fined Routledge $400 for the drug offence.

No conviction was recorded.

Mr Stjernqvist said the breach of suspended sentence matter would be committed to the district court.
