FC confident ahead of weekend

SOCCER

WHITSUNDAY FC have had two weeks of wash-outs and this has made them all the more eager to get out on to the pitch this weekend.

Having had their round one and two clashes postponed due to heavy rain, the Whitsunday club believe they are ready to start their 2011 campaign on a high.

Originally scheduled for Magpies Sporting Complex, Whitsunday FC will now play their round three fixtures at Rangers home ground with the division one side up against Rangers, while the women and premier men will take on Wanderers.

Division one coach Joel McBride said he was confident the club could make a good start to the season.

“We're itching to play as we have missed the first two rounds due to the wet weather,” he said.

“The three squads have still trained through this wet weather with alternate training programs being held this week.”

This message was echoed by women's captain Emily Smart.

“It would be good to play,” she said.

“We are looking forward to our new players joining the squad.”
