Findings to improve cancer treatment

NEW research on cancer from a major United States cancer genome centre could lead to better treatments for breast and ovarian cancer patients, it was revealed on Tuesday.

The US Cancer Genome Atlas project released research findings showing numerous similarities between breast and ovarian cancer.

In its report on the findings, researchers wrote analysis of genomic data found the link, which could lead to cancer treatments being designed specifically to treat those cancers, rather than the one-size-fits-all approach of radiation therapy.

It found four main types of breast cancer, one of which was markedly similar to ovarian cancer, opening the way for research into what treatments could apply to each different genomic type.
