Fire ball a hands-off option

FIRE extinguishers have been the standard for decades, but they're not much help if there's no one there to use them.

That's where the Elide Fire Ball comes in.

North Queensland distributor Mickey Rage will host a display of the 1.3kg wall-mounted ball at Whitsunday Sailing Club this Friday.

"When it hits a naked flame it will detonate in three to five seconds and cover the flame with fire retardant," Mr Rage said.

"The highlight of the fireball is you don't have to be there.

"The cradle can be mounted to the wall above a washer or dryer...or above a power board, a fuse box, or wherever you think a fire make take hold."

Mr Rage said the display would be contained within a gas training fire box, using both a cradle and from a participant's hands.

"It won't go for very long because these fire balls don't take long to activate. They're a life saver," he said.

The display will start at 5.45pm.
