Fire breaks out as police move to end siege

FOUR police officers and another man have been injured after a fire erupted during a siege lasting more than three hours at a home in Botany Bay.

Police were called to a Stephen Rd home after receiving reports of a man barricaded in a garage shortly after 11.15am.

Officers forced entry to the garage just before 3pm due to concerns for the man's welfare.

A NSW Police spokesman said the man and four officers received "various injuries" after a fire broke out at the scene.

Early reports suggest the man had doused himself in petrol.

The man and one of the injured police officers were taken to St George Hospital.

Two other police officers were taken to Prince of Wales Hospital.

A fourth officer was treated at the scene.

Officers attached to Botany Bay Local Area Command are continuing their investigation. -ARM NEWSDESK
