Fire destroys Wacol jail house

UPDATE 3PM: A HOUSE on the edge of the Brisbane Correctional Centre precinct has been destroyed by fire this afternoon.

The two-storey contingency accommodation was first reported as being on fire about 1pm.

Several crews of firefighters brought the blaze under control, with no reports of injuries.

Two residents of the house will be accommodated elsewhere on the complex.

Police and the QFES will investigate the cause of the fire.

EARLIER: SEVERAL crews of firefighters are battling a blaze which has taken hold of a house in the Wacol jail precinct.

The two-storey house on Wacol Station Rd is on the edge of Brisbane Correctional Centre property and is used for contingency accommodation for prisoners.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman says the house is well alight and firefighters are still conducting searches of the structure.

No injuries have been reported.
