Fireworks stash lands man in court

A MAN who was caught with what magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist described as "quite a stash" of fireworks, found himself in the Proserpine Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Daniel Anthony Collins was brought to court in police custody charged with possessing explosives.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Rebecca McDonald said police executed a search warrant at Collins' Cannonvale home on November 5 finding one pin wheel, three flaming balls, 20 smoke crackers, 20 thunder claps and 108 whistling moons. Sgt McDonald said no-one was home at the time of the search but Collins voluntarily attended the police station on November 7 and admitted the fireworks were his.

The 32-year-old said he bought them from a mate at the pub. He received a $440 fine but no conviction was recorded for the offence.
