Fireworks to go ahead

THERE will definitely be fireworks at this year's reef festival.

There had been some doubt until earlier this week when a sponsor was found.

Festival chairperson Jeff Aquilina said the fireworks were a key part of the festival, and every family's favourite event over the four days.

“We are delighted to have Martin Dines and his team at the Airlie Beach Day and Night Chemist on board for the Reef Festival fireworks,” Mr Aquilina said.

He said the global economic crisis had definitely hindered business support of the festival this year, and so the generosity of the naming rights sponsor Big4 Adventure Whitsunday, and now the Airlie Beach Day and Night Chemist, was definitely a major bonus.

“At one stage the festival was in jeopardy of not proceeding. However, these sponsors have enabled us to put on a great range of events over four days to suit everyone from families, to visitors to locals who love live music.”

The Big4 Adventure Whitsunday Reef Festival is run by a committee of volunteers.

Tickets are now on sale to the Westpac Comedy Evening ($65pp), Frocktails event ($50pp), Quota Ball ($65) and Brazillian Carnivale ($10pp) - go to www.whitsundayreeffestival.com.au for details on how to buy tickets.

Sponsorship for the Street Parade and Brazillian Carnivale is still up for grabs. Interested businesses should contact Jeff Aquilina on 4948 2655.
