First Backpackers in Airlie Beach?
JUST reading about the tourism awards night. Particulary Magnums awards.
Congratulations to Magnums. Well Done!!
28years in business is a long time these days. I read that Magnums was the first original Backpackers in Airlie Beach.
I'm not to sure what the term original means. The first purpose built Backpackers in Airlie Beach I believe was Backpackers By The Bay Hermatige Drive.
It opened for business 1986 (Long term locals might be able to correct me if I'm wrong).
A bed in those days was $7 a night.
The Owner was a fellow by the name of Ian Johansson.
The managers were Faye Bond & Gordon Cassellis.
Which actually means next year will be there 30th Anniversary. Back in 1986 Magnums was then called Whitsunday Village Resort.
