First-hand fun on Daydream

CANNONVALE State School's Year Three students got some first-hand experience of island life last week.

Taking to Daydream Island, the students had a blast expanding on their school work.

"The kids have been studying the history of Daydream Island and also the geography of the local area," teacher Kerri Head said.

"Part of their assessment is they have to create a map of Daydream Island.

"And they have to create an information brochure as part of their English assessment on Daydream.

"So they were gathering a lot of their information first-hand."

The kids saw some of our Whitsunday wildlife, including a few whales making their way north.

Sadly, Migaloo was not among them, but a great time was still had by all.

"I think it really opened their eyes to what's out there in the big world beyond what's inside the classroom," Ms Head said.

"It just gave them a real world experience."
