Real football to attract massive crowd to the MCG

MORE than 95,000 fans are expected to turn up to the MCG tonight, not to watch the AFL's match of the round, but to see some of the best footballers on the planet in the final game of the International Champions Cup

A Real Madrid line-up that includes superstars Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured), Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos will clash with English Premier League powerhouse Manchester City.

City's manager, Manuel Pellegrini, dumped by Real Madrid after failing to win a trophy in his only season in charge in 2010, would no doubt love nothing more than to gain a small measure of revenge.

The Chilean was regarded as being lucky to survive the axe last season after the Sky Blues failed to defend their EPL title, and also didn't pick up any other silverware.

This season the club has snared Liverpool striker Raheem Sterling, but the $A107million purchase has not enjoyed a hero's reception in Australia, booed regularly by fans at his new team's outings on the Gold Coast and against AS Roma in Melbourne on Tuesday night.

New Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez will also be under pressure after the club sacked Carlo Ancelotti following his trophy-less season.

That gives both teams plenty to play for in Melbourne in the final match of an incredible winter that has seen Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Villareal, as well as Roma, Real Madrid and Manchester City, bring their talent-laden squads Down Under.
