Four taken to hospital after fire on navy submarine

AN investigation has been launched to determine what caused a fire aboard a navy submarine off the West Australian coast.

The fire broke out aboard HMAS Waller on Thursday while it was on the surface.

A defence spokesman said emergency personnel responded to the fire and it was swiftly extinguished.

He said there were no causalities but, as a precaution, four members of the ship's crew who were involved in the fire response went to hospital for observation.

HMAS Waller had recently completed a scheduled maintenance period and was at sea as part of her return to operations.
