OPEN heart surgery is a daunting prospect for anyone, but it is what 11-month-old Annabella Foulds-Patterson will face on Monday.

The Toowoomba girl has battled a shocking series of health challenges in her short life and will now look to beat her latest hurdle.

Diagnosed with three holes in her heart when she was three weeks old, Annabella will next week be admitted to the Mater Hospital in Brisbane for potentially life-saving open heart surgery.

Annabella's mother Sarah Foulds said despite the constant challenges, she was doing everything she could to help her daughter make a full recovery.

"Every parent dreads hearing their child is not well. It was like a nightmare," Ms Foulds said.

"While it can be very difficult at times, I am very grateful for all the support Annabella and I have received.

"Without the cardiologists, emergency and paediatric departments at Toowoomba Hospital, Annabella may not be with us now," she said.

Ms Foulds described her daughter as a fighter and said she was a very brave girl.

"Annabella is a very happy girl," Ms Foulds said.

"She can be very talkative and playful.

"However, we need to make sure she doesn't exert too much energy.

"We were lucky there was a cancellation so the surgeons were able to schedule Annabella in earlier than expected. So she is very brave in my book and we are confident she is going to make a full recovery."
