Frantic found but beyond repair
THE missing yacht Frantic has been found but it won't be returning to the water.
Edge Marine Salvage owner David Edge said the yacht had been returned to shore on Friday after being discovered by a diver off Olden Island.
"He was just diving or snorkelling off Olden Island and at low tide he saw the tip of the mast sticking out,” Mr Edge said.
The Sayer 40 went missing after running aground on Grassy Island on August 18 but had disappeared when salvage crews returned the next day.
Mr Edge said the yacht was completely submerged and 15 inflatable salvage bags were used to re-float it.
"It took about half a day to get it up and then we patched the holes because it had holes all through it from hitting the rocks,” he said.
"Then we pumped all the water out and it was actually floating so we towed it back.”
Despite being afloat Frantic has been written off by the insurer and the hull is likely to be used for scrap.
"It looks like a crumpled tin can,” Mr Edge said, adding it was "like someone's hit it with a sledge hammer all over.”
