Free drugs from toilets
A CANNONVALE man has been fined after pleading guilty to a string of charges involving aggressive behaviour towards police and carrying dangerous drugs.
At about 12.15am on November 20, police saw Matthew Andrew Antony, 27, who had water thrown on him by his partner, following her towards McDonald's, Airlie Beach.
Proserpine Magistrates Court heard how an officer put his arm out in front of Antony who responded with an expletive. After behaving erratically towards officers, Antony was handcuffed but he continued to act aggressively. Antony then launched in a headbutt motion towards an officer and stopped just short of his nose, the court was told.
After arriving at the Whitsunday watch-house, a pat-down search was conducted where two clip- seal bags containing crystals were located. After refusing to tell officers what the drugs were, Antony finally stated he'd got MDMA from a man for free inside the toilets at Magnums Hotel.
Appearing as duty lawyer, Cleo Rewald, of Richards Rewald Lawyers, Bowen, said Antony had been involved in an argument with his partner and had been heavily intoxicated at the time. Antony received a total fine of $1500.
