Free festival for lucky Whitsunday local

FOR one lucky local, all the wonders of the Whitsunday Writers Festival are hers to peruse free of charge.

Jess Rossi, an English teacher and aspiring writer, was awarded a free weekend pass, saying she couldn't wait to return to the festival.

"I couldn't attend many sessions last year as I had just had my second baby but winning the weekend pass this year is absolutely fantastic as I will be able to attend the whole event," she said.

Ms Rossi was selected after providing feedback about last year's festival online.

The aspiring writer said the festival was a stepping stone towards realising her dream.

"I am not an experienced writer but I enjoy reading and I am interested in the process of writing and I hope to one day write a novel," she said.

"Or a cook book, I love cooking, or something that includes travel and writing."

Set for early September, festival organiser Deborah Friend said this year's 'diversity' themed event had something for everyone.

"The writers festival is not just for writers but also for people who love reading, books and the written word," she said.

"Many people just love to sit and listen to the others and be inspired by their ideas, experience and stories, and maybe one day write their own story."
