Fruit and veg for all

IMAGINE having access to gardens across the region where you can freely pick fresh fruit and veg.

Well, Whitsunday Organic Community Gardens wants to give you just that and group founder, Paul Jukes said he had a clear vision to create as many gardens in the area as possible.

Owner of the Whitsunday Arts and Cultural Centre, Paul Wellard has given the group a kick start by donating a portion of his land at Paluma Rd for the organisation to set up its first edible garden.

Mr Jukes said the group had already held a number of workshops on site and was thrilled to see such enthusiasm from the public.

"There's a lot of people who have been interested in community gardens in this area for a long time and I think now it's just reached that point where people know how to do it," he said.

"We've had positive contact with council too (for more garden spaces) so this is just a stepping stone into what's to come."
