Fun-filled day on foreshore with Today
CROWDS packed the Airlie Beach foreshore this morning to welcome the Today Show team to the region for their live broadcast.
Local Charlie Bell had the chance to meet his idols during an ad break.
The team rode on jet skis courtesy of Whitsunday Jetski Tours and Whitsunday Pioneer Jets.
Whitsunday Jetski Tours owner Toni Ward said it had been a great opportunity to show off the Whitsundays.
"We got that coverage to promote not only ourselves, but what a great region we're in," she said.
"We were really super happy with that."
The team also participated in a mud crab peeling competition run by the owner of Airlie's Fish D'Vine and Rum Bar, Kev Collins.
Mr Collins taught Tim, Karl and Lisa the art of mud crab peeling, saying he was impressed with their efforts.
"Lisa won which I wasn't expecting because Karl is a Queenslander and it's one of our iconic seafoods," he said.
The Airlie Beach Festival of Music also received a great deal of attention, with Lisa Wilkinson giving a special mention to the event.
Gavin "Butto" Butlin said they were over the moon with the wrap.
"We were down there at 5.30am and part of the crowd and had about 40 people down there in t-shirts," he said.
Prior to today's show, the cast have been experiencing all the Whitsundays has to offer.
Report Aislin Kriukelis visited the Great Barrier Reef, diving at Hardy Reef.
Tourism Whitsundays CEO Craig Turner said the visit had been a fantastic chance to get the region on the map.
