Fun-filled day one for the books
DRESS-UPS and fun were the order of the day at Proserpine State School's Book Week parade on Friday.
The Children's Book Council of Australia's shortlisted and important books were displayed in the entrance of the library for teachers to share with their classes. There was a variety of picture books, novels and non-fiction books for students regardless of their age.
Many classes also did activities relating to the books featured at Book Week this year.
Reading is considered a top priority at the Proserpine State School, with guided reading every day, so Book Week is a chance for the students to share some of the new Australian children's books.
The theme for Book Week 2016 was Australia: Story Country and the library held competitions on this theme for a full two weeks.
During the second week, the school held a Scholastic Book Fair where parents and the students could buy books.
On Friday, the highlight of Book Week was the dress-up parade. Students and staff came dressed as an Australian icon or a book character.
There were many wonderful costumes on show, including Ned Kelly, swagmen, lots of sheep, fish, koalas, old ladies, and even Dame Edna Everage.
Winners of the competitions chose prizes from the book fair.
