Fun in the sun at Whitfunday

LUCKY Dingo Beach local James Nelson, 14, only moved to the region in January and he's already been rewarded by taking home $1000 at Whitfunday.

"It's the most money I've ever had!" he said, after winning the event's lucky draw prize.

Mum Shannon was ecstatic with the news but warned he would only receive $500 , with the rest of the cash going straight to the bank.

Crowds flocked to Dingo Beach for the annual family day on Sunday, with more than 800 people registered for the $1000 cash give-away at 3pm. The day was made possible through the hard work of the Dingo Beach Progress Association and Lions Club, with sponsorship from Bendigo Bank, which included the $1000 lucky draw.

Progress Association president Andrew Dinnie has been involved with the event since 2006 said it was continuing to grow.
