Fun under the Whitsunday sun

WHAT do you get when you combine the Whitsundays and fun? The annual Whitfunday, which is coming this Sunday.

With food, competitions, prizes and fun, the day promises to get everyone from across the Whitsundays involved.

President of the Dingo Beach Progress Association, Andy Dinnie, whose organisation is behind the event, said the day was sure to be a family affair.

"It's going to be great and it's really good for families," he said.

"We hope to get a lot of children come down with their families and have a cheap day."

Those who arrive and register between 10am and 1.30pm will go in the draw to win $1000 cash courtesy of Bendigo Bank.

Families are encouraged to get creative for the Cruise Whitsundays Family Sand Sculpting competition, with a family cruise to the Great Barrier Reef up for grabs.

There will be something for everyone, with more than 40 stalls booked to showcase the community's small independent businesses and Mr Dinnie said there was room for more.

"We've got about 40 stalls booked so far and we'd love to see more," he said.

"Last year we had about 60."

To satisfy hungry bellies, Proserpine Lions will also hold a barbecue.

There will be plenty of chances for everyone to be a winner, with 15-18 prizes donated by local businesses in the Goose Club raffle, which anyone can purchase a ticket for.

Mr Dinnie said best of all, it would be a great chance to get away to a beautiful part of the Whitsundays for the day.

"Get some sand between your toes and sit back," he said.
