Galloway and Watson win top title

KATHRYN Galloway and Tania Watson were named this year's lady skipper champions in the final twilight race for the year last Wednesday.

They are the first lady skippers to have their names engraved on the lady skipper's trophy dedicated to the late Vicky Millar. Watson, Galloway and Kathryn Borer never let one another out of their sights throughout the five lady skipper races this year; with last Wednesday's race results determining who would be crowned the champion for Division 2 and the series.

It wasn't all smooth sailing for Watson or Galloway, with the two forced to do a penalty turn after hitting a marker.

Luck wasn't on side for Questionable Log i c skipper Ebony Norris when the main halyard broke just before the start causing the mainsail to crash down extremely quickly.

Esoteric skipper Dianne Jessop sailed perfectly to her handicap to take the podium win for Division 2.

Karen King was the winner and only competitor in Division 1 when she skippered Overdriv e in the final ladies skippered event for the year.

In Division 3 Concubine skipper Jo-Anne Smith had the best start and a close battle with Breakaway around the course, but it was Anta Van Gelder on Riff Raf f who took the line honours bragging rights, with Kerrie Parker sailing Little Gem to perfection to win first place.

Whitsunday Sailing Club commodore Rob Davis said the lady skipper race would be held in the new year.
