Get moving to raise funds for Cancer Council

THE Whitsunday Running Club has put the call out to local athletes interested in competing in events across Queensland.

Last week the Cancer Council launched its Get Moving campaign, which encourages Queenslanders to get active and raise funds by taking part in events such as the Bridge 2 Brisbane, The Color Run, the Gold Coast 50 and the Noosa Triathlon.

Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said Get Moving encouraged fitness enthusiasts to help Queenslanders affected by cancer.

"One person is diagnosed with cancer every 20 minutes in Queensland - we all know someone impacted by the disease," she said.

"Whether you've signed up for Bridge 2 Brisbane, the Noosa Tri, Gold Coast 50, Colour Run or the Great Southern Crossing, you can participate as part of Team CCQ and raise funds.

"Team CCQ is an active community, encouraging runners, gym-goers and fitness enthusiasts across Queensland to lace up their joggers for the cause."

Becoming a member of Team CCQ gives access to free nutrition information, recipes and active advice, discounted entry to selected events, prizes and access to a personal fundraising advisor.

"At least one third of all cancers are preventable through healthy lifestyle choices including being active and maintaining a healthy weight," Ms Clift said. "By joining the Team CCQ community, you can be confident you're making a difference to Queenslanders affected by cancer, and benefiting your personal health at the same time.

"There's never been an easier way to get active and raise funds for such a vital cause - 26,000 Queenslanders will be diagnosed with cancer this year alone."

Queenslanders can sign up to Team CCQ for free at cancerqld.org.au/
