Gillard, Burke 'throwing up a furphy'

MINING magnate Clive Palmer says he will not invest further in Australia while the Gillard Government holds office.

Mr Palmer, who has a proposed an $8 billion coal mine and infrastructure project in the Galilee Basin through his company Waratah Coal, claims Prime Minister Julia Gillard is creating sovereign risk for Australia through her government's stance on the proposed Queensland mining project.

Mr Palmer said Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke's action in suspending the approval process for the Alpha coal mine project in the Galilee Basin in Central Queensland was a disgrace and just part of Labor's political game.

"They are delaying a project already approved by the Queensland Co-ordinator-General after following environmental conditions set by the Bligh ALP government in Queensland," he said.

"Gillard and Burke are throwing up a furphy about protecting the Great Barrier Reef when all they are trying to do is deliberately delay a multi-billion-dollar project, appease Greenpeace and win over Green voters in NSW and Victoria."
