Global launch for Airlie book

A GLOBAL launch of a book centred in Airlie Beach is about to hit our shores and all are welcome to come and help celebrate.

Fraser Smith aka Richard Connery moved to the Whitsundays in March last year specifically to write his fifth book "Arcadia Waters".

"I wanted from the outset to have a local flavour in the book, something that wasn't written just for a broader audience but something that was written for the local market," Mr Connery said.

"People that come to visit the town want something to take away as a memory of Airlie Beach, why not something different like a book based in the town?"

The book is mainly set in Airlie and features a man and his dog answering a call for help from a friend who's disappeared.

Mr Connery said he spent a few months getting the "lay of the land" before spending nine months writing the book and a few more editing and fact checking.

Now one year's worth of work will be celebrated with the book's official launch at Anchor Bar next week.

"There'll be a few drinks and a bit of a chat, I'll talk about the book, give some insight in how I went about writing it, a Q&A if there's any questions and a sit-down for signing," he said.

"This is a year's work for me, I want it to be a celebration of that.

"For anyone who's interested come and join us and have a bit of fun."

The book will be available in every English speaking country around the world.
