Golfers back on course for 2014
EVEN though a downpour delayed the start of play, Whitsunday golfers opened their 2014 competition season with the January monthly medal on Sunday.
Wayne Temby was the A grade winner on nett 70 with Kerry Hall coming in as the runner-up on 71.
In B grade, Mick Caton was the winner with nett 68, followed by Brad Bowring on nett 71.
In C grade, Kevin Mills was the winner with nett 71, followed by Wilf Herweg on nett 74.
The increase in female players has resulted in a ladies division for 2014 and the first game of the year proved to be a close contest with Anna Winterbourn winning on a countbback from Tiina Randmae.
Both finished with a nett score of 72.
While clouds threatened all morning, most players stayed reasonably dry in spite of occasional showers, although the later starters did suffer a drenching at the end of the morning.
Course conditions were good. The staff work on the greens coming to fruition with grassy fairways, and the slow greens tricked many players but all in all, it was a good start to the season.
Wayne Temby, the A grade winner won the first Guzzler's cup of the year.
Next Sunday will be single stableford with 7.30am tee off.
