'Good Christian' slams 'bitch' series

AN EDGY new television show set to debut in the new year has created controversy before it even hits the air - and if Maryborough MP Chris Foley has his way, it never will.

Good Christian Bitches is based on a book with the same title and centres around the life of a recently divorced mother of two who returns to the affluent neighbourhood she grew up in.

The show is produced by the same company that pumped out other racy programs such as Melrose Place, Sex and the City and 90210 and stars quirky musical theatre siren Kristen Chenoweth.

The title was so unaccepted in America's bible belt, that the ABC changed it to Good Christian Belles, but Australia's Channel 7 has already begun advertising the show under its original name.

This week Mr Foley posted a link on his Facebook page, which has a following of 3050 people, asking the community to sign a petition calling for the show to be axed and labelling it "a disgrace".

Comments posted on his wall vary.

While the majority are supportive, others question why Mr Foley was focussing any attention on television shows when there were bigger issues to be addressed.

It was also suggested that those offended by the show could simply not watch it.

It's the second time this month Mr Foley has used his Facebook page to express his offence at issues directly relating to his Christian beliefs.

Two weeks ago, he posted a lengthy speech about his opposition to a bill allowing civil unions between homosexual couples.
