Goss and team take state skydiving title

THE Whitsundays own skydiving superstar Jonell Goss has once again shown her skill.

Taking to the skies for the Queensland State Skydiving Championships at the weekend, Goss and team Prop Wash took out the Four-way Inter-team title, winning gold.

Despite the win, Goss said their efforts were looking uncertain after a mistake.

"We actually had our jumps prior to the other three teams and the scores were coming up really late," she said.

"So we actually thought we had won and then one round we only got three points and we were averaging eight points.

"So it was pretty close."

Teams are given formations to complete while in free fall over five rounds, drawn at random by the judges.

"Each round will have either four or five points and you do the points then start again," Goss said.

"It's all about how many points you can get in 35 seconds of free fall."

This is the sixth time Goss has competed in the state championships, with team Prop Wash having "over 30,000 jumps" to their combined name.

Goss explained where this name came from.

"It's basically the wash you get from the propeller when you exit the plane," she said.

"It determines whether you get out of the plane cleanly.

"So it just sounded like an appropriate name because we weren't sure how our exits were going to go."

This is far from the first time Goss has taken her skydiving to new heights, having taken part in a successful Australian record for the largest formation in 2015.
