Goulevitch collects Open title

GOLF: Last weekend had the Proserpine Open Golf Championships played in the ladies on Friday, mixed foursomes on Saturday, and the men's on Sunday.

The Proserpine Open Champion for 2017 is Sarina golfer Chris Goulevitch who came in with a gross score of 105 for the 27 holes.

Runner-up was Peter Brittain of the Pioneer Valley club, on 107.

The A1 winner was Townsville's Karl Nielsen, 110, and runner-up was local David O'Connor 116.

B Grade was won by Allan Allison of Townsville, 120, runner-up Marl Thompson 124.

C Grade was taken out by Mark Schubert 135, and runner-up was Michael Caton 139, both from Proserpine.

Nett winners were:

A Grade: Nathan Holmes (Proserpine) 98, runner-up Craig O'Keeffe 105 (Richmond).

A1: Bruce Fielder 98, runner-up Rod Wecker 100.

B Grade: Chris Doblo 99 on a count back from Martin Kornis.

C Grade: Peter Lewis, 106, on a count back from Townsville's Isaac Reeves.

The Mixed Foursomes was a closely fought affair between the teams of Mel Patullo and Scott Grigg, and Trish McNeill and Rob Stanley, both with 80 gross.

McNeill and Stanley were winners on the first play-off hole, recording a par to Patullo and Grigg's bogey.

Meg Lyons' practice round on Thursday paid off as she and partner Jake Nurse were third.

The nett event was won by Linda Wardroper and Michael Caton 63.5, over Gary and Elspbeth Scottford 67 on a count back.

The pin shots went to Mel Patullo on one, David Brownsmith, two, Grahame George, 13, and Faye Elder on 16.

The overall Ladies Champion was Ayr golfer Tara Jenkins with gross 76.

Other A grade gross winner were Donna Watkins, Mackay, and Lyn Muller, Proserpine.
