Connors up for five Golden Guitars

MACKAY'S Graeme Connors is nominated for five Golden Guitar awards at tomorrow night's Country Music Australia Awards, which will be held in Tamworth.

The singer/songwriter, who already has 14 Golden Guitars, has been nominated for Male Artist of the Year, APRA Song of the Year, Toyota Heritage Song of the Year (The Mouth of the River), Heritage Song of the Year (Bondwood Boat) and Album of the Year.

The 40th annual awards is the pinnacle event of Tamworth's famous Country Music Festival and will be staged at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre from 7.30pm.

This year's Golden Guitars will host special guests, including John Minson, Kevin Knapp and Max Ellis, who cemented Tamworth as the capital of Australian country music when they helped to found the awards in 1973, and surprises to honour the rich history of the country music industry.

"The Jayco CMAA Country Music Awards have evolved immensely since their humble beginnings at the Tamworth Town Hall," Mr Ellis said.

"But what hasn't changed is the unbridled passion that both artists and fans alike display for the genre.

"I'm looking forward to celebrating the success of country music in Australia at this year's 40th anniversary awards."
