Great response to netball comp

NETBALL

SENIOR netball is well underway with the last two weeks consisting of a round robin competition with all teams having the opportunity to play against each other to grade the teams into A and B grade competitions.

The club was happy to see a major increase in numbers from previous seasons with eleven teams taking part in the Wednesday night competition.

Whitsunday Netball Association (WNA) senior convenor Tania Golding has done a great job in organising the draw and duty rosters which gives every team a role to help contribute their part to the competition

Golding's comitment to WNA has been extremely valuable and appreciated by all involved.

A number of junior netballers have progressed into the senior competition and are bringing some of their mums along to play.

Numbers have also been very healthy and continuing to grow in the junior competition with many age groups having more than one team.

Juniors play competitively every Wednesday afternoon from 4.30pm and have been helping out by umpiring and setting up courts.

Netta's (10-8yrs) and Net Set Go (5-7yrs) have had a huge turn out with over 40 players registered in this age group.

Most of these girls are new to netball and they are quickly learning some basic skills and positions on the court. WNA hopes to offer umpiring clinics and coaching courses throughout the season to recruit more volunteers to help with increasing numbers.
