GTs on the bite at Shute Harbour
ISLANDS
THE main target has been Spanish mackerel, with some fish reported around the 30kg mark.
Best places are Nara Inlet on the run-out tide, Double Cones on the north west reef and Dolphin Point, both jigging and trolling.
Mackerel Bay being the pick on the run-out tide jigging, try using metal jigs into the bait schools.
Bottom fishing has been doing quiet well for sweetlip and coral trout around the fringing reefs.
Jew fish have also been on the bite around the deep holes at South Molle and Long Island, using fresh squid and ribbon fish slabs.
The outer islands have seen an increase in tuna schools.
ROCK WALLS
There's still plenty of nice grunter being taken on garfish fillets and peeled prawns.
Early morning has some big GTs cruising around the herring schools under the jetty, you will need heavy gear to catch these.
Queenfish and mackerel are also feeding on the bait schools with some nice sweetlip fishing the bottom.

DAM
Not a real lot to report at the dam for the moment due to cold, westerly wind conditions however, with this building moon phase, the barra should start to fire up a bit.
There have been reports of the odd barra being trolled up on the southern banks of the main basin.
It will also be worth targeting barra on wind-blown points and weed bed using soft plastics and surface lures.
RIVER
With these neap tides the river will be a good option to fish this week.
There have been good reports of thread fin salmon being caught on live baits.
Also some good grunter are being caught on muscle beds up from river ramp from the reports.
It will be worth taking some crab pots down as that bit of fresh we had through the river seems to be stirring the crabs up a bit.

REEF
The last week of the school holidays has been reasonably productive fishing at the reef, although there were some reports of tough days but most who ventured out got a good feed. Giant trevally have been caught on surface poppers and stickbaits up to 30kg also. The week ahead sees a bit of wind and rain forecast so might be a good opportunity to service the gear for the next calm spell.
