Hail and winds pelt Proserpine

LASHING rain, strong winds and even hail - Proserpine copped a battering on Sunday night.

Local photographer David Barwell was there to capture all the action.

The Proserpine resident said the presence of hail had come as something of a shock.

"I've never seen hail in Prossie in the 15-odd years I've been here," he said.

"It was very small but there was definitely hail in it, and heavy rain and strong winds with it."

Peter Lewis, a Proserpine resident of around 70 years, also experienced a first during the storm.

"(The wind) was coming in at top speed from one direction and within a matter of seconds it was coming back the other way.

"I can't recall seeing that before."

Although both Mr Barwell and Mr Lewis reported branches and leaves on their property, both houses escaped undamaged.

Bureau of Meteorology's Mackay Weather Station manager John McIlwham said the Proserpine remote weather recorder was not equipped to detect hail.
