Half of women feel shy about buying swimmers

IN A recent survey by Australian swimwear label Sirens Swimwear, it was discovered that 54% of Australian women fear shopping for their summer cossies; commenting they feel uncomfortable trying on swimwear in public stores for fear of judgement.

"This is a horrifying results," said Sirens lead designer Bettina McLeod.

"It shows that there is a lot going wrong in the process from entering a shop to actually buying something, although there is absolutely no reason to feel self-conscious at any size."

It was also discovered that women feel there is not enough choice in swimwear for their individual body shape and often squeeze into the wrong size or style just to get past the purchasing process.

"Purchasing anything; where it be a dress, pair of shoes or beach wear should be a fun experience for women," Ms McLeod said.

The survey found that 18% of participates don't like their body when it comes to looking for swimmers, and almost 20% feel exposed when shopping for the item and fear they will be judged by sales assistants.

Sirens Swimwear this year launched a new way for women to shop for their swimwear. Called 'Ship the Shop' it enables the buyer to select up to 5 swimmers online and have them sent to their home directly. They are then able to try them on in the privacy of their own home and return those they don't wish to purchase.
